Our momentum shows the power of global employment, and we’re just getting started! If you want to help us drive change and work remotely, we’d love for you to apply!

Location: While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster’s positions are fully remote and you can work from home. Forever. To create the best experience for our new hire, this role requires you to be based within +3 / -3 UTC.

Join our Payroll & Finance Transformation team to help automate and scale multi-country payroll processes from end-to-end. You’ll get hands-on with real payroll data, document complex logic, and partner with Finance, Payroll, Product and Engineering to drive full automation.

You’ll be joining as an Analyst playing a highly impactful role in our Payroll & Finance Transformation team. You will work on complex payroll systems across multiple countries. This is a hands-on  role where you’ll be exposed to the logic, structure, and behind-the-scenes processes that ensure accurate, compliant payroll execution and payments.

You will be maintaining payroll logic, working cross-functionally, and documenting country-specific rules and exceptions. You’ll help track down missing data, identify inconsistencies, and gradually take ownership of workflow components as you grow with us. Along the way, you’ll learn how payroll connects with finance, tax, product, and engineering - and how operational decisions impact the broader business.

You’ll also support payroll processing, ensuring data is complete and validated each cycle. As part of our shift towards full automation, you will help translate manual processes and payroll logic into structured documentation and flows that can be automated and scaled.

This is a great opportunity for someone highly analytical, curious, and who wants to get deep into workflow and data automation. You’ll be expected to ask questions, take initiative, and build confidence working with complex information. If you enjoy spotting patterns, fixing broken logic, and want to learn how to design systems that scale - this role will give you a strong foundation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align payroll calculations with accounting, tax, and compliance requirements
  • Process and validate structured input data (salary, bonuses, leave) to ensure accurate payroll runs
  • Continually inspect and analyse payroll data, flagging and escalating any inconsistencies.
  • Define and document operational requirements for technical implementation
  • Map product features to payroll workflows, ensuring seamless integration
  • Translate manual payroll logic into structured rules that can be automated
  • Perform user testing of new features to ensure operational edge cases are covered
  • Support the documentation and improvement of payroll workflows and edge cases
  • Identify repetitive tasks that could be standardised or automated
  • Contribute to the creation of scalable logic and templates for multi-country payroll
  • Use Alteryx to automate payroll workflows, reduce manual work, and improve data accuracy
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders (Finance, Product, Engineering, Ops)
  • Help track open items, missing data, or blockers across cross-functional teams
  • Take ownership of smaller deliverables and follow up with the right people to resolve issues
  • Be proactive, organised, and eager to contribute to a high-performing, globally distributed team

Core Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or data roles, with a focus on automating manual processes
  • Hands-on experience with data transformation tools like Alteryx or similar automation platforms
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and how payroll intersects with accounting, tax, and compliance
  • Strong understanding of core financial and payroll concepts (e.g. gross vs. net, statutory deductions, benefits)
  • Experience working in fast-paced, innovative environments
  • Proficiency in SQL, Looker, or other BI tools
  • Experience with process mapping and workflow optimization
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail
  • Educational background in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Data (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets; familiarity with structured data is a plus
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and follow through on deadlines

You'll also need

  • A reliable home internet connection (or be able to get one)
  • Fluent English language skills
