Where can you actually work from?

One rule, applied to every place. A role is open from a place when the employer hires there, or anywhere that place sits inside — Lisbon counts as Portugal, the EU, Europe and EMEA. Every number on this page is that rule against today’s board.

0 roles hire from anywhere at all — open from every place below, so no place is ever at zero. We score 0 places in total.

Cities with the widest doors

The places from which the most roles are open today.

How a place gets its number

Why does Lisbon have more roles than Portugal?

It doesn’t — it has at least as many. Lisbon inherits everything open from Portugal, the EU, Europe and EMEA, then adds roles that name Lisbon itself. A place is never smaller than the regions it sits in.

Why isn’t a Spain role open from Lisbon?

Because the rule only walks upward. Spain and Portugal are both in Europe, but an employer hiring “in Spain” hasn’t said it hires in Portugal. We don’t guess for them.

What about places with only the “anywhere” roles?

They’re listed with that number. Some employers hire from anywhere at all, so no place is ever at zero — but a place whose number equals that baseline has no employer naming it, or its country, specifically.

From the editor

Why this page is a map, not a list

Places nest. A city sits in a country, which sits in a region. Laying it out that way is what lets you see that a Toronto role is also an Ontario, Canada and North America role.

Counts are live. They are computed from the same feed the board runs on, every visit, with the same rule.

Some places are unfiled. A handful of records arrived with no parent region; they are listed at the bottom of the map until the taxonomy catches up.

Hiring?

Publish a salary range and name the countries you hire from, and your role goes above those that don’t. That is the only ranking factor here.
