As a Mechanical Engineer II on WHOOP’s Continuous Improvement Team, you will play a key role in designing product improvements at scale, sustaining high production yields, ensuring manufacturing stability based on customer feedback and evolving business needs. In this fast-paced, execution-driven environment, you will independently develop creative mechanical solutions while exercising strong technical judgment. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams across Electrical, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to bring innovative concepts to life within the flagship product, supporting prototyping, design, and testing. You will also partner closely with global suppliers and contract manufacturers to execute validation builds, with a focus on high-quality deliverables, effective risk management, clear communication, and product excellence. Own critical parts of current generation Whoop Hardware Products
Design, prototype, and test complex mechanical components around microelectronics, meeting stringent technical, performance, and industrial design requirements to guide projects from concept through manufacturing release
Develop and present multiple design solutions for novel and complex technical challenges, articulating them clearly to cross-functional teams and documenting design process and specifications thoroughly
Generate technical documentation such as 3D files, 2D drawings, bills of material (BOM’s), and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) following product development cycle timeline
Communicate engineering requests and conduct DfM reviews to vendors and contract manufacturers as the product development cycle progresses
Own and drive second sourcing initiatives for mechanical components and assemblies to diversify the supply base and reduce manufacturing risk
Support planning and execution of verification and validation plans, leveraging design of experiments (DOE) methodologies to drive understanding, uncover insights, and deliver actionable results that enhance product quality, performance, and manufacturability
Perform root-cause analysis and implement design improvements for quality, reliability, and performance enhancements
Collaborate with senior engineers to evaluate new technologies and manufacturing methods
Up to 20% travel to contract manufacturers and suppliers internationally
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
3+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products, preferably for consumer electronics, wearables, or medical devices
Experience with SolidWorks CAD best practices, including advanced assemblies, tolerance analysis, configuration management, and applying DFx/DfM feedback
Familiarity with second sourcing, supplier qualification, and risk mitigation strategies in manufacturing
Hands-on experience in operating and maintaining rapid prototyping tools to craft proof-of-concept models
Strong communication skills and comfort working with cross-functional teams and external partners
Experience in high-quality consumer electronics or wearable technologies preferred
Familiarity with validation testing methods and statistical analysis tools preferred
Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes (e.g., plastic injection molding, sheet metal design, metal injection molding), manual assembly, and complex testing fixture design preferred
Working experience in a fast-paced or startup environment preferred
A passion for health, or wearable technologies; and designing human-centered solutions in this space
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000-$150,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.
These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
