As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Platform Insights team, you'll help build and evolve a unified data event platform that gives GitLab users clear, actionable visibility into how they work. You'll work on high-scale, data-rich backend services in Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL and on analytical databases like ClickHouse. These systems power dashboards that let users query, visualize, and analyze data from all stages of the DevSecOps lifecycle. Your work will make it easier for teams to monitor the health of their services, processes, and collaboration in one place and to create rich, use-case-specific views that answer their most important questions.
You'll partner closely with Product Management, UX, and other engineering teams to shape technical direction, lead architectural decisions, and turn complex data and observability needs into iterative, production-ready solutions. You'll help other GitLab teams integrate monitoring and insights features into their product areas and ensure a consistent experience across the platform. In your first year, you'll own core Platform Insights backend components end to end. You'll drive tangible improvements in scalability, reliability, and data quality and help define best practices for building distributed, observable systems within GitLab.
We are part of GitLab’s broader product engineering organization. We’re a small team focused on evolving GitLab’s data and analytics capabilities to provide meaningful insights across the product. We work asynchronously across time zones and collaborate closely with other teams at GitLab. Together, we design, build, and maintain the services, data pipelines, and APIs for our area of the product, with a strong focus on reliable and efficient cloud-native architectures.
Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. If you're excited about this role, please apply and allow our recruiters to assess your application.
