Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Software Developer who will be part of a team who builds a state of the art telematics platform that makes sense of the data collected by custom-built hardware. What you'll do:

As a Software Developer your key area of responsibility will be writing high-performance Java, Python and Go code and SQL queries to process and store data in real-time, as well as writing JavaScript and TypeScript code to create fast and responsive user interfaces. You will need to work closely with other members of the development and technical teams.

To be successful in this role you will be a strong team-player with an entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable in a flat organization, highly organized, and able to work well under pressure to respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines. In addition, the successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Listen and contribute to design discussions and make detailed notes and documenting requirements and technical design.
  • Provide guidance to more junior team members, sharing knowledge across the teams.
  • Write scalable, high quality and secure software in a variety of programming languages and environments, such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, SQL.
  • Perform quality assurance by doing peer review, ensuring coding standards are followed, looking for logic errors and other bugs.
  • Analyze call stacks, trace files, performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs.
  • Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and proofs of concept.
  • Provide assistance to our support staff and resellers from a technical perspective. This may be in the form of on-call or ad-hoc questions
  • relating to how certain features work or verifying the behaviour by reviewing code.
  • Research new language features, frameworks and other relevant technologies and offer recommendations to Leads and senior leaders.
  • Assist in defining best practices to be used in the team.
  • Provide design documents and documentation to ensure efficient maintenance and code reuse.
  • Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotating schedule.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 1 - 5 years of required previous experience in a related field.
  • Post-secondary Diploma/Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of multiple general purpose programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python), as well as experience with Python, Google Compute Engine, and Google BigQuery.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud computing experience with GCP, AWS and/or Azure.
  • Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and engage with all levels of the organization.
