We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Specialist to lead and strengthen our organization's workplace safety programs. This role is responsible for identifying hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, developing safety policies, and building a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate combines deep technical safety knowledge with strong communication and leadership skills to influence behavior change and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations • Build, drive, and participate in Safety Solutions Group meetings • Respond to regulatory inspections, working directly with agency personnel. Partners with Sr. Manager and Sr. Director to develop responses to investigations, agency requests, and proposed citations • Conduct routine safety audits, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and workplace inspections to identify and mitigate risks • Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop corrective/preventive action plans • Track, analyze, and report safety metrics (TRIR, LTIR, near-misses, etc.) to leadership and recommend data-driven improvements • Design and deliver safety training programs, including new hire orientation, hazard communication, PPE use, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, and emergency responses • Oversee the site's regulated and biohazard waste programs for compliance • Maintain compliance documentation, safety data sheets (SDS), and required regulatory recordkeeping (OSHA 300 logs, etc.) • Partner with operations, engineering, and HR teams to integrate safety considerations into processes, equipment design, and facility layout • Lead or support emergency preparedness planning, including drills and business continuity efforts • Stay current on evolving safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices, and proactively update programs accordingly • Partner with Sr. Safety Manager and Workers’ Compensation teams when injuries occur • Oversee on-site security
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) • 3-5 years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in [industry, laboratory, pharmaceuticals, and/or logistics] • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, EPA) • Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels • Proficiency with safety management software and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace tools • Familiarity with ergonomics assessments and behavior-based safety
• Ability to walk, stand, climb, and navigate industrial/warehouse/construction environments for extended periods • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs • Some travel between sites may be required • Use of appropriate PPE in field settings
