The editor will play a key role in shaping MS NOW’s 2028 presidential campaign coverage, coordinating closely with the D.C. and N.Y. bureaus, breaking news reporters and platform producers while helping to expand and optimize MS NOW’s weekend coverage across platforms.The ideal candidate has experience as an assignment editor at a major news publication covering breaking news, with exceptional news judgment, superb writing and editing skills, and a deep understanding of journalistic standards. You should be comfortable working across platforms, have a strong understanding of the MS NOW voice and brand, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure newsroom.This position is based in New York or Washington, D.C., with a regular schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Weds. through Sunday, with flexibility as breaking news demands.This position is represented by the Writers Guild of America East.What you will do:Coordinate with the D.C. and N.Y. bureaus and breaking news teams to cover the most important stories of the dayEdit and mentor the breaking news reporters during your shiftsWork with senior editors and the managing editor for news to create and implement a weekend breaking news strategy for MS NOWStay informed about the 2028 presidential campaign and its candidates, helping to keep track of reporter deployment, linear TV plans and reading widelyHelp lead live blog coverage as neededCollaborate across editorial and platform teams to optimize reader engagementWork with platforms producers to keep the homepage looking updated and fresh, and help with headlines, push alerts and newsletter productionEdit and occasionally write breaking news and enterprise articles on the top headlinesQualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience7+ years working in a newsroom environment7+ years working in a strictly digital shopMust be able to edit quickly and accuratelyMust have experience working in breaking news and ideally, political newsMust have the desire to work in a creative, demanding and competitive environmentAdditional Job Requirements:Must be willing to work in New York or Washington, D.C.Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United StatesThis position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000Additional InformationAs part of our selection process, external candidates may be required to attend an in-person interview with a VERSANT Media employee at one of our locations prior to a hiring decision.
