VDC Engineer / Specialist
Department: VDC
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Reporting To: Kavon Saimi
Compensation: $75,000 - $100,000 / year
Description
W.E. O’Neil is looking for a VDC Engineer to lead Virtual Design & Construction at the project level. You’ll work directly with the project team on the day-to-day VDC work that keeps projects coordinated, from running coordination meetings and resolving clashes to capturing what’s actually built on site and checking it against the model.
This is a hands-on role for someone who likes being close to the work. You’ll run the project's technology, not just support it, and your coordination will shape what gets built in the field.
This position reports to the Regional VDC Manager, and you’ll collaborate with project teams, Marketing, Business Development, and IT.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead coordination meetings and drive issue resolution with project teams, subcontractors, and clients
- Manage on-site reality capture, including laser scanning, drone operations, and Cupix
- Review clashes and create issues in the coordination model
- Manage coordination deliverables, including deck penetrations, horizontal penetrations, pad drawings, RCPs, and overhead drawings
- Verify work in place against the coordination model
- Implement VDC tools and procedures on assigned projects
- Work with Marketing, Business Development, and IT as needed
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant experience in VDC or a related field
- Proficiency in Forma Admin (ACC), Forma Docs, Forma Coordination, Navisworks, Revit, and AutoCAD; proficiency in other industry software is preferred
- Experience with reality capture technologies and related software, such as laser scanning and drone operations
- Skilled in clash review and issue creation
- Able to lead meetings effectively and communicate clearly with subcontractors, clients, and internal teams
- Self-motivated, works well independently or as part of a team
- High attention to detail when verifying work in place
- Problem-solver under deadlines, with a high degree of integrity and accountability
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and use reality capture equipment (drones, laser scanners, 360 cameras)
- Part 107 drone certification and Autodesk certifications are preferred
- Clean background check required
Benefits
- Lead VDC at the project level and see your coordination show up in the field
- Work with reality capture tools like laser scanners, drones, and 360 cameras, not just the model
- A direct seat on the project team, with the support of a regional VDC leader behind you
- 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company with a track record dating back to 1925, so your work has a direct stake in the outcome
- Full benefits package: competitive pay, bonus program, medical/dental/vision insurance, PTO/sick leave, life insurance, 401(k) with match, and a student debt assistance program
