AI Builder

Hiive is redefining how private companies and their shareholders access liquidity. Through its institutional-grade platform, Hiive brings together buyers, sellers, and issuers to facilitate secondary transactions in venture-backed, pre-IPO companies, introducing efficiency, transparency, and standardization to an otherwise opaque asset class.

Recognized as one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies and backed by leading U.S. investors, Hiive is profitable, well-capitalized, and building a high-performance team to meet growing demand and pursue new market opportunities.

We are building something new at Hiive: an internal team dedicated to reimagining how a fast-growing, regulated financial services company operates — using AI not as a buzzword, but as a genuine building material. We are looking for an AI Builder to join this small, high-impact team.

This is not a traditional engineering role, or a traditional product role, or a traditional operations role. It’s all of them and none of them. You will identify real operational problems across our business: in sales, compliance, legal, trading, and beyond, and build AI-enabled tools and systems that solve them. End to end. From sitting in a room with the people who feel the pain, to shipping a product they use every day.

You will work alongside a senior engineer as part of a small, high-impact team, embedded at the intersection of technology and business. Your work will directly shape how ~180 people work, and your tools will touch every major function at the company.

We care about what you can build, how you think about problems, and whether you have the curiosity and drive to learn fast in a domain (regulated private securities) that will be new to you.

In this role, your responsibilities would include:

  • Discovering and diagnosing operational pain points across business functions by embedding with internal teams — Sales & Trading, Legal & Compliance, Account Services, Transaction Services — and deeply understanding their workflows.
  • Designing and building AI-enabled internal tools, automations, and systems that solve real problems.
  • Owning the full lifecycle of internal products: problem discovery, solution design, rapid prototyping, iteration based on user feedback, and transition to steady-state operation.
  • Working collaboratively with our senior engineer to build products that are robust, maintainable, and production-quality — not just prototypes that gather dust.
  • Translating complex business requirements (particularly in regulated financial services) into clear, practical technical solutions, ensuring compliance and process discipline are built in from the start.
  • Maintaining and extending our internal AI infrastructure, including knowledge bases, Claude skills, internal agents and workflow automations built on our existing stack (Notion, Salesforce, Front, Linear, Slack).
  • Contributing to the team’s evolving roadmap by identifying high-impact opportunities and making the case for what to build next, grounded in real business need.
  • Staying relentlessly current with AI tools, techniques, and capabilities, and bringing that knowledge back to the team and the broader organization.

Required skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to build and ship products, tools, or systems that real people use. We want to see your work — whether it’s a side project, something you built at a previous job, an open-source contribution, or a startup you founded.
  • Active, fluent use of AI tools (e.g., Claude, Codex, Cursor) as core building instruments, not just productivity aids.
  • Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking skills. You can look at a messy, multi-stakeholder workflow, see the structure underneath and figure out what to build to make it better.
  • Technical literacy to work with APIs, databases, and modern development tools. You need to be able to build real things, not just spec them.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments (CloudFlare)
  • Excellent communication and empathy for non-technical users. You will spend a significant portion of your time talking to salespeople, lawyers, compliance officers, and operations staff. You need to earn their trust and genuinely understand their work.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and self-direction. This is a small team building a new function. There is no established playbook.
  • Intellectual curiosity that goes beyond AI. You are someone who wants to understand how a private securities marketplace works, why compliance matters, what a salesperson’s looks like, and how a tender offer gets executed — because understanding the domain is what makes your tools actually useful.
  • Discipline and judgment to build what is necessary, not over-engineer. You ship the 80% solution in hours, iterate based on feedback, and know when to ship.

Preferred skills:

  • Degree in Computer Science, with 2+ years of experience in product engineering.
  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or another regulated industry.
  • Proficiency with the latest AI research and core tools: Codex, Claude Code or Github Co-pilot.
  • Experience with prompt engineering, AI agent/skill development, RAG architectures, MCP; Agent to Agent protocols; Memory and context engineering and multi-agent systems.
  • Background in engineering, product management, operations, or consulting — any role where you had to understand business problems deeply and translate them into solutions.
  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment, or as a founder, where scope is fluid and resourcefulness is essential.
  • A portfolio, GitHub profile, blog, or public body of work that demonstrates your building instinct.
  • Genuine curiosity about where AI is heading. If you like reading Arxiv papers for fun, we want to hear from you.

Compensation, benefits & perks:

  • Highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and contribution.
  • Opportunity to participate in ownership of a rapidly growing early-stage startup through our employee stock option plan.
  • Comprehensive 100% employer-paid health and dental premiums, a health and personal spending account.
  • A dedicated desk in our Vancouver, BC HQ, in the heart of downtown, with a fridge stocked with healthy snacks and drinks, an onsite gym, and a gorgeous rooftop amenity.
  • Enjoy a $20-per-day commuter benefit for every day you work in our Vancouver HQ.
  • An engaging social calendar, including bi-weekly catered lunches, bi-weekly “Friday bar,” team workouts, annual summer party, and holiday party, two “onsite” all-team retreats each year, semi-annual team-building events, and Hiive Womens’ Network events.
  • Significant opportunities for growth into team leadership and management roles.
  • Entrepreneurial culture and a small and dynamic team.
  • Sponsorship, immigration, and relocation for exceptional candidates.

Hiive is committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all individuals have an opportunity to succeed.
