Out of every 100 UK roles on our board, 7 show the pay.

That's 287 of 4,252 live roles naming the UK. In the US, where several states require a range, it's 39 in every 100.

The gap follows the law.

Where a law requires a range in the advert, employers publish one. Where it doesn't, most don't.

A range has to be a range.

The median published range on our board runs 1.28 times from bottom to top, across 6,110 ranges. We've asked for a cap of 30%.

10
01

Every advert, every employer

No size threshold. Careers pages, job boards, LinkedIn, agencies and internal vacancies.

02

A real range

A minimum and a maximum. "Competitive", "DOE" and "up to" don't count.

03

No wider than 30%

The top of the range no more than 30% above the bottom.

04

Set in good faith

The range is what the employer expects to pay. An offer outside it needs a written reason.

05

Bonus and commission shown

Base pay and on-target earnings, listed separately.

06

Location pay in the open

Remote roles say whether pay changes by location, and give the range for a UK hire.

07

Follows the role

Overseas employers, and those hiring through an employer of record, are covered too.

08

No pay-history questions

At any stage of recruitment. Past pay carries past discrimination forward.

09

Penalties that bite

Fixed fines, a public reporting route, and job boards free to reject adverts without a range.

10

In force within a year

The advert rule doesn't depend on tribunal reform, so it shouldn't wait for it.

How we count

Figures as of 6 November 2026. Updated every 3 to 6 months.

Live roles only

Every open role on the We Are Distributed job board, pulled from employers' own applicant tracking systems.

Where a role is

A role counts as UK when its hiring regions name the UK or the United Kingdom. The US and the five EU markets are matched the same way, by country name.

What counts as a range

A range the employer publishes in its pay field or in the advert text. Our own recommended salaries are never counted.

What it doesn't claim

These are roles advertised on our board, which lean towards remote tech and go-to-market jobs. Many come from employers outside the UK hiring through an employer of record. They aren't a sample of the whole UK labour market.

Every role on our board shows the pay.

25 in every 100 roles carry the employer's own range. For the other 75, we show a recommended salary.
