How to build and download a resume

Resume Builder lets Plus members create a resume in a structured form, import an existing resume, preview changes as they type, grade the resume, reuse accomplishments from their Library, and export a PDF copy.

Open Resume Builder

  1. Sign in to your dashboard.
  2. Select Resume Builder.

Build your resume

The page has two main areas: a form for your resume details and a live preview of the finished layout. The icon buttons at the top right show their names when you hover over them.

Resume Builder with the form on the left, the live preview on the right, and Preview and Grade Resume at the top
  1. Enter your details under Personal Information.
  2. Write your Professional Summary. Add Target job keywords from the job description, and tick This resume is for remote-only roles if that applies.
  3. Add your Career Highlights, Professional Experience, Education and Tech Stack.
  4. Use the preview panel to check formatting and content as you edit.

The preview updates while you work, so you can spot layout or wording changes before you save.

To rename your resume, click its name at the top left of the page and type a new one. A new resume starts as Untitled resume.

Import an existing resume

If you already have a resume, you can import it instead of typing everything in. Your file is read only in your browser and isn't saved until you save your draft.

  1. Click the Import resume icon at the top of the page.
  2. Click Choose a resume to import and pick a PDF, DOCX or TXT file of up to 8 MB. Scanned PDFs without selectable text can't be read.
  3. Check what was imported, including anything listed under Needs your review.
  4. Click Add to blank fields to fill in only empty fields, or Replace current draft to replace what's already in the form.
  5. Review the filled-in fields, then save your draft.

Review your resume

Resume Builder scores your resume and highlights what to improve before you export. Open the review panel to see the score, the checks behind it, and a tip for each area that needs work.

  1. In Resume Builder, click Grade Resume at the top of the page. The review panel replaces the preview on the right. Click Preview to switch back.
  2. Read the Resume Score out of 100 and its letter rating, then go through each category's checks. Click a category to collapse or expand it.
  3. For any check that is not passing, read the tip below it and update the matching field in the form on the left.

The score, category bars, and the badge on Grade Resume update as you type, so you can keep editing until the checks pass. Checks are grouped into categories such as Header & Target Role, Metrics & Impact, Summary, and Skills.

Each check shows one of three statuses: a green check for a passing check, an amber alert for a partially met check, and a red cross for a check that needs work. Tips appear only for checks that are not passing.

Some recommendations are marked Review. These are checks the tool cannot confirm from your resume alone — for example, whether you have checked the resume in an external ATS checker or created a distinct tailored version for a different target role. Verify these yourself and take the recommended action.

After you make your changes, save your draft and export the PDF as described below.

Keep accomplishments in your Library

Your Library stores accomplishments you can reuse in any resume. Click Library at the top of the Resume Builder dashboard to open it.

Library page with the Review queue and Accomplishment library tabs

Bring in achievements from your check-ins:

  1. When you submit an employment check-in, choose Career achievement under How should this check-in be classified? and turn on Add to your resume builder.
  2. In your Library, click Sync accomplishments. Achievements you shared appear in the Review queue, and the Library button shows how many are waiting.
  3. For each one, edit the wording under Review wording, then click Add to library. Click Dismiss to skip it, or choose an entry under Merge into existing… and click Link source to add it to one you already have. Click Restore to review to bring back one you dismissed.

If syncing fails, open Resume Builder again from your dashboard and try once more.

Add your own: on the Accomplishment library tab, fill in the accomplishment and, if you like, the employer, role, skills, tags and date, then click Add to library. Search and filter your entries, click Edit to change one, or Archive to put it away.

Add an accomplishment to your resume

  1. Open a resume you've saved. (The Library isn't available on a new resume until you save it.)
  2. Click the Use Library icon at the top of the page.
  3. In Reuse from Library, choose the job in your work history where the accomplishment belongs.
  4. Click Use next to the accomplishment. It's added to that job.

Save a draft

When you want to keep your progress, click the Save draft icon at the top of the page. If you are editing a resume you already saved, it's called Update resume.

Saving stores your current draft so you can come back and keep editing later.

Download the PDF

When your resume looks right in the preview, click the Export PDF icon at the top of the page to download a PDF copy.

Review the preview before exporting so your PDF matches the version you want to share.

What to do next

After you export your resume, you can upload it to the Job Tracker for resume analysis and job application workflows. See How to upload your resume to the job tracker and Using Career Agent to automate your job search.
